Open Source Fans Manifesto
We are a group of open source enthusiasts and believers. We believe:Open source represents a force for good!As a worldwide movement sweeping the world, more than 20 years of history have proven that open source can not only nurture the latest technology and create better software, but also help the world become a better place.
Analyzing the connotation of open source and understanding the spirit of open source can help us understand why open source can make the world a better place. In our view, the spirit of open source is reflected in the following aspects:
Open source spirit
Sharing
When a software engineer writes a good software, he will not be stingy about sharing it, nor will he be shy about sharing it. He is willing to share because he believes that this software may be helpful to others, and others will help him to make better software together. There is a Western proverb:"Give someone a rose, and leave a lingering fragrance in your hand.". We all believe:Being willing to share is the beginning of all good deeds。
Openness
The importance of openness is reflected in many aspects. Open source code allows wisdom to blend together across time and space. Establishing an open and transparent community can attract more friends to join, help newcomers understand and agree with community rules, and improve the level of supervision to promote procedural justice in community operations. Openness includes welcoming all possibilities and welcoming users, participants and contributors from any corner of the world. There is an old Chinese saying:"The sea embraces all rivers, and tolerance is great.". We all believe:Openness and transparency are the cornerstone of any good collaboration。
Equality
We welcome any contribution from anyone, and we evaluate every code or document submission equally with uniform standards. We only review the quality and value of the code or document itself, and do not use the age, race, gender, education or position of the contributor as a criterion for judgment. All human beings are created equal. We all believe:Equality is the guarantee of community health。
Collaboration
Collaboration in the open source community begins with accepting small contributions. An open community advocates open collaboration. Such collaboration will not start after the entire group reaches all consensus, but welcomes bit by bit improvements from everyone. There is an old Chinese saying:"If you don't accumulate small streams, you can't become a river or a sea.". We all believe:Open collaboration and gradually building consensus are the secret to community prosperity。
Build a better world
Every friend who is involved in open source is more or less an idealist. We believe: This imperfect world deserves to be better. We also believe that we can make the world a better place through the technologies we master and open source methods. We also believe that the spiritual connotation of open source should be promoted to more fields. We believe more:Creating a better world is the ultimate pursuit of open source。
Action Initiative
Friends in the open source community believe in the power of starting from me. Therefore, we issue the following action initiatives:
Advocate widely
We should work harder to spread the concept and spirit of open source to the public, so that more people can accept the concept of open source and become open source comrades. We should also promote the practice of open source in areas other than open source software and open source hardware - not only open source code, but also open data, open all knowledge and experience that can help the world become a better place, so that more industries and more groups can accept open source and become the beneficiaries of open collaboration.
Help each other
We should help more open source projects to thrive and achieve perfection; we should help more open source communities to unite, help each other, and collaborate together. We should prevent the meaning of open source from being misused or misinterpreted. We should prevent fragmentation, oppose artificial barriers, oppose any "pseudo open source" with discriminatory terms, and ensure that open source is always a cause that benefits the world.
Just do it
Everyone can participate in open source, not just the big guys. We can start by correcting spelling, translating or writing documentation, debugging code, submitting code, reviewing code, volunteering to support open source activities, or even giving sermons to attract more friends to join.
